Dachau

April 1999

Dachau concentration camp was the first of the Nazi concentration camps opened in 1933, intended to hold political prisoners. It is not far from Munich, Bavaria, southern Germany.

I didn’t take many pictures, it was more about the experience and the feeling you get while there. You definitely feel the heaviness of the suffering and death. You come away different, it’s not a site you enjoy but one you must visit.

Munich 1999

April 1999

Always love a visit to Munich! My heart is in Bavaria ❤️

The famous Glockenspiel

Nymphenburg Palace was the main summer residence of the former rulers of Bavaria of the House of Wittelsbach

Sisters in the Marienplatz

Oberammergau

May 1991

Most famous for the once a decade Passion Play, Oberammergau is a quaint little town with beautifully painted homes in the Alps of Bavaria.

Neuschwanstein 1991

May 1991

This gorgeous castle is the one that inspired Walt Disney Worlds Cinderella Castle. He was later known as “Mad” King Ludwig but many question whether or not he was mentally ill or not. He plunged his kingdom into massive debt with his megalomaniac construction projects that still dot the Bavarian countryside today. Sadly he was deposed and found dead in a lake, many question whether or not he was killed or suicide. He only lived in his castle for a short period of time and it still is not finished.

Munich 1991

May 1991

This was my first time in Munich and I fell in love.

The famous Glockenspiel in the Marienplatz

The infamous Hofbrauhaus for a fun evening in the beer hall!

Heidelberg

May 1991

We took a leisurely cruise down the Rhine to Heidelberg. It was beautiful having ein viertel Wein as you pass the green river banks dotted with crumbling castles at the high points.

The castle in Heidelberg

Going out at night, Heidelberg is a University town with a great nightlife scene.

Cologne

May 1991

Gray, chilly and gothic were my first impressions of Cologne. The dramatic cathedral imposes itself over the city almost like a mountain.

Last year East and West Germany unified and it was an exciting time to be there.
